Director of Biological Manufacturing

Our client, a pioneering biotechnology company based in Cambridgeshire, is seeking a highly experienced individual to lead their biological manufacturing programmes and support technology transfer activities.

The Opportunity

This is a senior role for a seasoned professional with a proven track record of leading biological or cellular manufacturing programmes and supporting technology transfer projects. As a Director of Manufacturing, you will be responsible for:

  1. Defining long-term objectives for the manufacturing department, aligning them with overall business goals.
  2. Continuing the expansion and development of manufacturing processes and frameworks across the GMP cleanroom facilities.
  3. Supporting technology transfer projects from the research and development teams.
  4. Spearheading departmental improvements as the facilities grow through the evaluation of existing processes and growing the team where required.
  5. Leading the daily organisational activities of the GMP team and taking responsibility for staff training.
  6. Fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and excellence, whilst driving initiatives to enhance the manufacturing process, reduce waste, and maintain product quality.
  7. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Tech Transfer, Commercial, and Supply Chain, to support product development and commercialisation efforts.
  8. Analysing production data and performance metrics to identify opportunities for process improvement and cost optimisation.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  1. BSc / MSc / PhD in Biology (or equivalent biological degree) (desired)
  2. Proven track record of success in leadership roles within biological manufacturing or production operations.
  3. Expertise within internal technology transfer of R&D projects to manufacturing including scale-up, process optimisation and stability testing (essential)
  4. Prior experience working within a GMP environment and strong understanding of GMP documentation (essential)
  5. Proven experience in leading manufacturing teams and leading manufacturing projects (essential)
  6. A background that involves molecular or cellular biology (ideal/desired)
