Downing is a prestigious developer, owner, and operator specializing in high-quality, tailored student housing, residential, and commercial properties throughout the UK. With over three decades of experience, we currently manage 13 operational student accommodation facilities in major urban centers, alongside several noteworthy projects in development.

We are seeking a dedicated Facilities Maintenance Technician to enhance our team, responsible for the upkeep of our outstanding Student Accommodation Facilities. Our properties include two buildings, offering a total of 561 student living spaces.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate initiative in delivering exceptional customer service while effectively collaborating with management and colleagues.
  • Coordinate with and oversee onsite contractors to ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks.
  • Manage daily reactive and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Conduct planned maintenance tasks, including fire alarm testing, emergency lighting checks, fire extinguisher inspections, water hygiene monitoring, and health & safety assessments.
  • Perform regular inspections of the premises to identify maintenance needs or health and safety concerns.
  • Carry out scheduled inspections of living spaces and address any resulting actions promptly.
  • Document, track, and manage any maintenance issues in the maintenance log.
  • Maintain accurate records for all services, including gas safety checks, lightning protection systems, fall arrest systems, PAT testing, and electrical safety certifications.
  • Ensure that all Property Documentation Files are meticulously maintained and current.
  • Comply with health and safety policies, ensuring that Risk Assessments and Method Statements are obtained and adhered to, including Permit to Work and hot works permits.
  • Engage with residents to understand and address their needs.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Exhibit ownership of responsibilities and take pride in the quality of work performed.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of health and safety regulations and their implications for maintenance activities.
  • Hold relevant qualifications in plumbing, carpentry, or electrical systems, if applicable.
  • Have prior experience in domestic electrical, plumbing, or general maintenance tasks.
  • Demonstrate intermediate proficiency in business software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload effectively.
  • Collaborate within a team to support reception and administrative duties while gaining familiarity with the student booking system.

Working Hours:

  • Monday to Friday, with shifts from 8 am to 5 pm or 9 am to 6 pm on a rotating basis.
  • Availability to work one Saturday every four weeks from 8 am to 5 pm on a rotating schedule.
  • During peak operational periods, additional hours may be required.
