Methods is a leading IT Services Consultancy partnering with central government departments and agencies to transform the public sector in the UK. We're seeking an experienced Infrastructure Platform Engineer (On-Prem/Cloud) Consultant to join our team on a permanent basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and support infrastructure that underpins platforms, applications, and data supporting the business.
  • Automate processes to facilitate rapid delivery of approved capabilities to respective environments in a secure manner.
  • Design and implement secure infrastructure as code to automate infrastructure creation from development to production.
  • Collaborate with teams to improve ways of working and best practices, understanding customer and market trends.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and convey needs to the target audience.
  • Test and examine code written by others, providing approval as part of governance and review processes.
  • Ensure systems are safe and secure against cybersecurity threats, designing security by default.
  • Familiar with NCSC secure design principles and managing security of platforms on cloud or on-premises.
  • Work with the team to ensure development and delivery follow established processes and work as intended.
  • Plan projects and be involved in project management decisions.
  • Responsible for design, security, and maintenance of on-prem/cloud infrastructure.
  • Make effective decisions, explaining how the decision was reached, and resolving technical disputes.
  • Communicate complex technical information simply and accessibly to non-technical audiences.
  • Understand how to expose data from systems, link data from multiple systems, and deliver streaming services.
  • Ensure risks associated with deployment are adequately understood and documented.
  • Integrate security features in the software development life cycle.
  • Identify and mitigate security risks, implementing security controls.
  • Monitor infrastructure and security threats, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Early detection of security vulnerabilities, faster deployment of secure software, and better compliance with security standards.
  • Experience working in an agile delivery methodology.

Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with multiple teams, especially security, would be beneficial.
  • Solid infrastructure design experience for on-prem environments to implement or migrate applications and databases.
  • Experience with hybrid designs between on-premise and cloud.
  • Solid experience in a range of technologies, making assessments and suggesting innovative approaches.
  • Strong experience in software development change/release management processes and technical governance.
  • Ability to work with containerization platforms, provisioning software, and application/infrastructure/data performance analysis and monitoring.
  • Experience of functional and non-functional testing.
  • Experience with automated deployment of applications, databases, and infrastructure.
  • Understanding of the government digital service manual and standards across Discovery/Alpha/Beta/Live phases.
  • Understanding of SaaS, PaaS, IaaS technologies, and their implications compared with bespoke development.
  • Ability to provide training, support, and mentoring to the wider business.
  • Knowledge of ensuring risks associated with deployment are adequately understood and documented.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Worked as part of a system support team managing live systems and triaging & resolving incidents to resolution.
  • Worked as part of a multi-disciplinary project team.
  • Experience with Terraform and YAML to deploy on-prem/cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with automation tools to build and deploy containerized applications.
  • Experience implementing effective instrumentation to monitor applications.
  • Experience implementing SAST and DAST tooling in deployment pipelines.
  • Experience with on-prem DevOps tooling.
