Project Manager for Engineering Biology Initiatives
2 months ago
Position Overview:
The Project Manager will oversee two distinct initiatives within the realm of Engineering Biology. The first initiative is a BBSRC-funded sLoLa program, spearheaded by a leading academic in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. This program aims to uncover the fundamental principles governing the interactions among microbial community members in environmental microbiomes, with the goal of developing predictive strategies to enhance our understanding and management of microbiome functionality. Utilizing low diversity communities from geothermal springs, the project will explore the metabolic, ecological, and evolutionary dynamics that dictate the transformation of CO2-rich industrial waste gases into valuable products.
The second initiative is an EPSRC-funded program focused on establishing a national center and technical training hub for Biomolecule Engineering, collaboratively led by a team of Senior Technical Specialists. This program integrates various research technology platforms across biology, chemistry, automation, and computation, fostering a highly interdisciplinary approach to biomolecule engineering. The national facility will offer open access to diverse technology platforms and expert technical support for researchers from both academia and industry, while also creating a training center through workshops, tailored training, online resources, and apprenticeship placements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the administrative aspects of the Engineering Biology projects.
- Serve as the primary liaison between project leaders and industrial partners, as well as external funding bodies.
- Ensure effective coordination, delivery, and communication across all project activities in collaboration with investigator teams.
- Organize and facilitate:
- Activities related to the sLoLa program across the university.
- Regular scientific meetings for both project teams.
- Secondments and placements.
- Engagements with external academic and industrial partners.
- Training workshops and bespoke training programs.
- Development of online training resources.
- Establish a dedicated website to promote the projects and collaborate with the Biomolecule Engineering Centre team for external access and training requests.
Commitment to Inclusivity:
We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and flexible culture that enables all individuals to realize their potential and contribute positively to our organization. We believe that a diverse workforce enhances collaboration and productivity. We welcome applications from candidates who align with this vision.
Benefits:
- Competitive pension scheme.

- Additional paid time off during the holiday season.
- Local and national discounts at various major retailers.
