About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Automation Manager to join our team at the Women's Engineering Society. As an Automation Manager, you will be responsible for leading the introduction and implementation of automation into our Research and Development, Engineering, and Manufacturing departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examine manufacturing processes for automation opportunities that improve safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency, and lead the implementation of these changes.
  • Create, write, and modify work instructions related to automated processes.
  • Work with our Chief Technology Officer to develop a new design philosophy that incorporates automation.
  • Understand our product portfolio and architecture, and lead the transformation to Design for Automation (DfA) in product design, testing, verification, and manufacturing.
  • Identify opportunities for automation in design and manufacture of products, and specify, define, design, and implement automation processes and tools.
  • Participate in the New Product Introduction (NPI) process and provide relevant deliverables for stage gates.
  • Create and implement automation workflows into production environments, including Value Stream Mapping to maximize Return on Investment.
  • Determine and document important process and functional requirements in the design and control of automation equipment and process, and implement appropriate Statistical Process Control (SPC) measures.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams from ideation to implementation of tooling.
  • Estimate manufacturing costs, process time, and manpower requirements as it relates to applied automation, and consolidate, document, and present results for review.
  • Utilize structured problem-solving techniques to troubleshoot production problems involving continuous manufacturing processes, and investigate and determine the root cause of failures and problems.
  • Conduct R&D, engineering trials, experimentation, and production process evaluations and analysis to vet concepts and support recommendations, and analyze production data to identify trends, problems, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare training materials and train key production employees and production supervisors on new work procedures and manufacturing processes.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in a related field within automation engineering.
  • Experience with creating and implementing automated mounting and assembly processes.
  • Experience with manufacturing productivity control (SPC) through automated assembly processes.
  • Ability to measure and verify manufacturing process Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and adapt automated processes to meet productivity and quality targets.
  • Excellent organizational and timekeeping skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to mentor and train staff.
  • Ability to engage with change management tools and support colleagues through a change process.
  • High degree of personal integrity and ability to perform well as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of automated production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills, and strong math skills.
  • Intermediate skills in Excel and other application software used in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
