About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Laser Quantum business unit and contribute to the development of semi-automation solutions for our manufacturing site in Stockport. As Automation Manager, you'll be responsible for project managing new concepts and initiatives, working closely with cross-functional colleagues to drive results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Examine manufacturing processes for automation opportunities, making proposals and leading implementation.
  • Create and modify work instructions for automated processes.
  • Collaborate with the CTO to develop a design philosophy that incorporates automation.
  • Lead the transformation of product design, testing, and manufacturing to Design for Automation (DfA).
  • Identify opportunities for automation in design and manufacture, specifying and implementing automation processes and tools.
  • Participate in the NPI process, providing relevant deliverables for stage gates.
  • Create and implement automation workflows in production environments.
  • Determine and document process and functional requirements for automation equipment and processes.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams from ideation to implementation of tooling.
  • Estimate manufacturing costs, process time, and manpower requirements for automation.
  • Utilize structured problem-solving techniques to troubleshoot production problems.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in automation engineering.
  • Experience with creating and implementing automated mounting and assembly processes.
  • Experience with manufacturing productivity control through automated assembly processes.
  • Ability to measure and verify manufacturing process KPIs and adapt automated processes.
  • Excellent organizational and timekeeping skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to mentor and train staff.
  • Ability to engage with change management tools and support colleagues through change.
  • High degree of personal integrity and ability to perform well as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of automated production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing effective manufacture.
