Palliative Medicine Fellow

The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical service provision in Palliative Medicine, with a focus on education and quality improvement project work. This role will offer an excellent opportunity for senior trainees to gain in-depth experience in Palliative Medicine, or to broaden their experience in education or governance.
Main DutiesThe post holder will perform the duties of Fellow to the Palliative Medicine team, working within one or more areas of the service, including:
- Providing clinical care on the specialist inpatient wards in Sobell House or Katharine House, offering intensive symptom management and end-of-life care for adults with life-limiting conditions.
- Offering a consultative specialist advisory service for adults with life-limiting conditions under the care of specialist colleagues in the acute hospitals of the John Radcliffe, Churchill, Nuffield Orthopaedic, or Horton Hospitals in Oxfordshire.
- Working in the Community Palliative Care Team, in concert with primary care, to enable symptom control and advance care planning for adults with life-limiting conditions who are in their usual place of residence throughout Oxfordshire and South Northamptonshire.
- Participating in the on-call rota alongside current Specialist Registrars and Specialty Doctors.
Oxford University Hospitals is a leading NHS trust providing specialist palliative care services. Sobell House is an integral part of the Oncology Directorate within the Surgery and Oncology Division. The trust has a strong commitment to education and research, and this role will play a key part in supporting these efforts.
Team and Scope of WorkThe post holder will be part of a medical team comprising consultants, Associate Specialists, Specialty Doctors, and doctors training in Palliative Medicine and General Practice. The scope of work covered by the medical team includes clinical care, education, research, and leadership of end-of-life care across the trust.
