About the RoleWe are currently recruiting for an Applied Scientist to join our Technology Development Group within the Physics sub-function at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE). As an Applied Scientist, you will be responsible for undertaking research and development on diagnostics for hydrodynamics trials.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research and development on diagnostics for hydrodynamics trials
- Develop new techniques and diagnostics in the laboratory
- Undertake data analysis and keep up to date with scientific literature
- Develop new techniques for the analysis of diagnostic data
- Participate in experiments and attend conferences within the UK and overseas
- A strong degree in Physics or a related subject with a focus on applied science
- Relevant experience in the field of optics or photonics
- Some practical laboratory skills
- Experience of programming with MatLab or Python
- Initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines
- 9-day working fortnight, with every other Friday off work
