SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary) Job Description

Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary)

Location: Ashington, Northumberland

Job Type: Part-time/Full-time

Salary: £75 - £110 per day

Job Description:

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and passionate SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary) to join our team at a school in Ashington, Northumberland. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary), you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to create a safe, nurturing environment for children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEMH needs in their learning and development
  • Assist the teacher in planning and delivering lessons tailored to individual student needs
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to students
  • Help manage challenging behaviour in a calm and effective way
  • Encourage positive social interactions and emotional well-being
  • Support students in developing independence and life skills
  • Work with other staff and external professionals to create personalised support plans

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs (preferred)
  • A positive and patient attitude
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly and effectively
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or the willingness to obtain one
