Empowering Learning: Seeking a Sports and Learning Mentor

We are working alongside a school in the Mickleover area to appoint a sports and learning mentor to work across their KS2 cohort. This is a full-time, fixed-term contract starting October 2024, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Support pupils with challenging behaviour, working closely with them to develop positive relationships and strategies for success.
  • Lead sports sessions at break and lunchtimes, promoting physical activity and teamwork.
  • Provide one-to-one support to children in class, helping them to overcome academic and personal challenges.
  • Use sports as a tool for mentoring children, helping them to develop essential life skills and confidence.
  • De-escalate situations where children exhibit extreme behaviours, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Lead academic interventions with children working below age-expected levels, helping them to catch up and achieve their full potential.
  • Assist the class teacher with lesson setup, ensuring a smooth and effective learning experience.
  • Liaise with the class teacher and school SENCO to monitor pupil progress and develop targeted support strategies.
Requirements:
  • A teaching assistant qualification or relevant degree.
  • A sports-based qualification, demonstrating expertise in coaching and mentoring.
  • Previous experience supporting children with challenging behaviours, ideally with TeamTeach or MAPA training.
  • An understanding of supporting pupils with special educational needs (SEN).
  • The ability to inspire pupils to reach their full potential, promoting a growth mindset and love of learning.
