Role Overview: Commissioner for Senior Citizens in Northern Ireland

The Executive Office (TEO) is on the lookout for a dedicated individual to take on the role of Commissioner for Senior Citizens in Northern Ireland. This position is crucial for advocating and safeguarding the rights and interests of the elderly population.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to engage effectively and foster trust among various stakeholders within the sector. You should be empathetic, approachable, and an excellent communicator, with a comprehensive understanding of the diverse challenges faced by older citizens. These challenges may include ensuring access to health and social care, combating age discrimination, addressing feelings of loneliness and isolation, tackling crime, and advocating for affordable energy solutions.

The successful candidate will serve as the Accounting Officer, responsible for the organization's resource management and accountable to the Assembly for its operational functions.

This is a full-time position for a term of four years, with the potential for one renewal for an additional four years, contingent upon satisfactory performance.

The remuneration for this role aligns with the Northern Ireland Civil Service Senior Civil Service (SCS) Pay Band 1, ranging from £79,237 to £88,908 per annum. Initial remuneration will typically be at the lower end of this scale, with eligibility for annual pay increases based on performance. The position is pensionable, and the Commissioner will be required to travel extensively within the jurisdiction and occasionally beyond.
