Position Overview

We are pleased to announce an opportunity for an Advanced Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to become a vital member of our dedicated team, enhancing effective communication for individuals.

Our organization has been entrusted to deliver comprehensive speech and language therapy services for children and young people. This encompasses a wide range of universal, targeted, and specialized services.

We seek an Advanced SLT to conduct Autism diagnostic evaluations as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team. The role can be tailored to focus solely on this area or incorporate additional specialized caseload responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will integrate into our team and collaborate with children, young people, their families, and the broader children's workforce. You will receive support from our extensive team and have the opportunity to influence the innovative services we provide.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will facilitate assessments and interventions for children requiring specific services. This includes conducting evaluations for children on the Autism diagnostic assessment pathway, preparing reports in accordance with established guidelines, and contributing to decision-making within the multidisciplinary team.

Our services are primarily delivered in community hubs, through home visits, and in educational environments, often involving collaboration with parents, caregivers, and various agencies.

Our Halton team comprises: a Lead Speech and Language Therapist; Specialist, Senior, and Junior SLTs; an Early Years Teacher; and Speech and Language Therapy Assistants, all supported by a Business Support Team.

Job Duties

While a comprehensive job description will be available later, here are some key responsibilities:

  • Deliver speech and language therapy services to children, both directly and through family support and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Conduct speech, language, and communication assessments for children and young people in consultation with families and other professionals.
  • Provide interventions on an individual or group basis as necessary.
  • Design and implement SLT programs and group activities for students.
  • Maintain accurate records and generate written reports.
  • Establish therapy targets and monitor progress.
  • Manage your own caseload and take responsibility for a designated area of service, working autonomously.
  • Collaborate as part of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to the planning, development, and delivery of effective services.
  • Engage with other agencies and families to provide an integrated service.
  • Supervise SLT student placements.
  • Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, supervision, and support of junior SLTs, SLTAs, and volunteers.
  • Facilitate clinical case discussions.
  • Access clinical supervision through regular meetings, group and individual supervision, mentoring, and performance reviews.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development.
  • Make independent decisions regarding caseload management and service design, and manage projects autonomously.
  • Lead the coordination and development of clinical services.
  • Deliver training programs and contribute to the development of training materials.
  • Participate in the evaluation and monitoring of services.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or Master's in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Registered with relevant professional bodies.

Desirable

  • Relevant training for the role, such as ADOS.

Experience

Essential

  • Over 5 years of experience as an SLT working with children, young people, their families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with children and young people diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring others.

Desirable

  • Experience in conducting Autism diagnostic assessments and report writing.
  • Experience in leading teams to deliver high-quality SLT services.
  • Experience in monitoring service outcomes.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office 365 suite, including Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams.
