Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement personalized education plans (IEPs) that cater to the distinct needs of each student.
  • Employ various communication techniques, including Makaton, PECS, and alternative communication devices.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that fosters the well-being and growth of students.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including therapists and support personnel, to provide comprehensive assistance for each child.
  • Engage with families and caregivers, offering regular updates and nurturing strong partnerships.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to remain informed about best practices in SEN education.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Candidates must possess QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience with PMLD: Demonstrated experience working with children with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
  • Specialist Knowledge: Understanding of sensory integration, complex physical needs, and adaptive technologies.
  • Communication Skills: Proficiency in alternative communication methods such as Makaton, PECS, and other assistive technologies.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Passion and Dedication: A sincere commitment to supporting the holistic development of students with complex needs.
  • Safeguarding: A solid understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.

Desirable Qualities:

  • Additional qualifications in SEN, such as a postgraduate certificate or diploma.
  • Experience in developing and implementing sensory curriculums.
  • Prior experience in a similar educational setting or role.
