Position Overview:

MMP Consultancy is looking for a Principal Building Surveyor to join a Local Authority in West London on a temporary contract basis. This role offers a competitive daily rate and requires a Class 3 Registered Building Inspector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the provision of technical services for the Building Control Authority, ensuring adherence to building control laws and standards.
  • Safeguard public welfare by enforcing building regulations and managing demolition and temporary structure projects.
  • Coordinate the Council's actions regarding hazardous structures, collaborating with emergency response teams.
  • Participate in the leadership and administration of the Building Control Authority, representing the department in corporate initiatives.
  • Act as the deputy for the Assistant Director of Building Control when required.

Main Duties:

  • Offer expert guidance on building safety, regulations, and structural matters.
  • Assist the Building Safety Regulator in overseeing high-risk buildings and enforcing compliance.
  • Ensure the Council recovers full costs for services as mandated by the Building Safety (Fees and Charges) Regulations 2023.
  • Guarantee the proficiency and training of building inspectors.
  • Implement building regulations utilizing powers granted by the Building Safety Act 2022 and Building Act 1984.
  • Investigate and address violations of building work, issuing necessary notices and pursuing legal action when needed.
  • Supervise the inspection and licensing processes for demolitions and temporary structures.
  • Assess fire safety documentation in planning submissions and provide compliance advice.
  • Serve as a third surveyor under the Party Wall etc Act 1996.

Qualifications Required:

  • Mandatory Class 3 Registered Building Inspector status.
  • Registration as a Class 3 Building Inspector.
  • Membership in MRICS, CABE, or a comparable professional organization.
  • A minimum of five years of post-qualification experience, ideally within a Building Control setting.
  • Management experience is advantageous.
