The Role:

As a Portfolio Underwriting Manager within PIB Group, you will provide critical support to the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) and Portfolio Director. Your expertise in underwriting will be essential in constructing, analyzing, and evaluating underwriting strategies tailored to specific binders and insurers. You will facilitate collaboration between insurers and the Managing General Agent (MGA) to enhance underwriting practices across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in insurer meetings, both scheduled and impromptu, contributing insights and documentation as necessary, while collaborating with the MGA to execute the agreed underwriting and pricing strategies.
  • Conduct thorough data analysis to extract key insights and formulate actionable recommendations.
  • Oversee loss ratio targets associated with each binder and suggest necessary corrective measures.
  • Develop comprehensive underwriting plans for finalization and approval by the Managing General Underwriter (MGU) and insurers.
  • Collaborate closely with business teams and technical managers to identify and address performance challenges.
  • Provide detailed impact assessments of proposed changes to the portfolio.
  • Model and present ad-hoc data for capacity partners, aiding in the selection and acquisition of new capacity partners.
  • Assist the MGU in establishing a consistent approach to underwriting best practices.
  • Work with technical managers within Q Underwriting to enhance best practices and create systematic frameworks for technical underwriting, including peer reviews and training programs.
  • Ensure compliance with established underwriting standards.
  • Support the development and implementation of propositions for both new and existing binders.

Experience Required:

The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of the London Market Insurance Industry, demonstrating enthusiasm and diligence. Essential qualifications include:

  • ACII qualification or progress towards it.
  • Technical underwriting experience in Property or Casualty insurance.
  • Background in an underwriting role within an insurance company.
  • Experience working within a portfolio team is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with delegated underwriting practices is beneficial.
  • Understanding of underwriting calculations, including loss ratios and combined ratios.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and trend identification.
  • Strong skills in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • A solutions-oriented approach to underwriting.
  • Focus on profitability and growth.
