Job Title: Children and Youth Officer

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the heart of North Yorkshire Council, leading the team that administers school admission, transport, and exclusion appeals.

The Appeals Team, part of Legal and Democratic Services, plays a crucial role in ensuring the proper and lawful administration of around 500 school admission, transport, and exclusion appeals hearings each year.

The team uses video conferencing to hold remote school admission appeals, and as the Principal Officer, you will lead and manage a team of Senior Appeals Officers, providing high-quality support and guidance to independent appeal panel members, councillors, officers, schools, parents, and the public.

You will also bring a project management approach to identify efficiencies and improvements in processes, ensuring the team's work is effective and efficient.

This is a permanent, full-time position (37 hours) based at County Hall, Northallerton, with hybrid working opportunities and a requirement to attend meetings in other parts of the county.

The post is politically restricted under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Appeals Team
