We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced scientific leader to join our Climate and Earth Observation group at the National Physical Laboratory. As a Principal Scientist, you will play a key role in driving forward a programme of research that strategically leverages NPL expertise to help bridge the gap between climate modelling and Earth Observation communities.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and lead a team of scientists at the interface of Earth Observation and climate models for climate relevant science, grounded in the application of metrological principles.
- Combine your interpersonal and analytical skills to engage internal and external stakeholders to identify and secure opportunities for novel work, promoting the value of metrology and EO data within the climate modelling community.
- Use your skills in leadership and research design to guide the team and align the programme with NPL's strategy.
- Drive collaboration – internally and externally – to enhance activity and optimise commercial opportunities.
- Represent NPL and speak at relevant events to promote our work and build relationships with key stakeholders.
We are looking for a proven scientific leader with expertise in climate modelling and a strong track record of delivering high-impact research. You will have a clear vision for your technical area, its application and impact to address national and international climate challenges. You will be able to motivate and inspire a team of scientists to do better and have the commercial awareness to help us achieve our ambitions.
