Ashford, Kent, United Kingdom Kent & Medway NHS & Social Care Partnership Trust Full time

Position Overview

This role is ideal for a seasoned Specialist Grade Psychiatrist eager to collaborate with a Consultant Psychiatrist within the Ashford community, located in East Kent.

The Ashford Team is structured into two main components: Mental Health Together (MHT) and Mental Health Together Plus (MHT +). These components are further organized into distinct pathways and streams. As a prescriber, you will be responsible for supporting and evaluating patient requests from both sections of the team. You will work alongside other prescribers, including:

  • 1 full-time Consultant Psychiatrist
  • 1 Full-time SAS doctor (this position)
  • 1 Non-Medical Prescriber

Qualifications Required

Successful candidates must have completed at least 12 years of medical practice (either continuously or cumulatively) since obtaining their primary medical qualification, with a minimum of six years in a relevant specialty within the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent experience in a relevant specialty from other medical roles, including international experience, will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

The current team manages a caseload that averages approximately five new cases daily. The doctor will adhere to the new community mental health framework (CMHF), which has introduced MHT and MHT +. The post holder will manage a small caseload of standard care patients requiring medical input before transitioning to primary care.

Additionally, the post holder will play an active leadership role in the referral screening process and the assessment of new referrals.

Participation in Trust management meetings will be expected as appropriate.

The post holder will also provide training and educational support to Trust staff when feasible.

Travel to various Trust locations is necessary to fulfill job duties. Patients are expected to visit the clinic base; however, if this is not feasible, the post holder will need to travel to them, as well as for other work and training purposes. All travel expenses will be reimbursed according to national guidelines and Trust policy.

While primarily responsible for delivering high-quality clinical services, the post holder is also expected to engage in the strategic development of the team and broader services, collaborating with the team manager and locality manager to guide service development in alignment with the organization's strategic direction.
