Consultant Biomedical Scientist in Cervical Screening Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Biomedical Scientist to join our team at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a clinical diagnostic reporting service for cervical cytology specimens and histology specimens, and will work closely with our team of Consultant Pathologists and Consultant Biomedical Scientists.
Key Responsibilities- Provide specialist expert interpretative skills to the training of Cytology staff.
- Assist the Cervical Screening Provider Lead to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the screening programme linked to the laboratory.
- Attend multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings to discuss cervical/colposcopy cases and provide guidance on clinical action or intervention.
- Work with colleagues to ensure that the quality of services provided to GPs and other sample takers meets quality standards.
- Assist with the mandatory audit of cervical cancers as outlined in NHSCSP Publication 28.
- BSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent, currently registered with the HPC.
- NHSCSP Certificate of Competence in Cervical Cytology.
- MSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent.
- Certificate in Advanced Practice in Cervical Cytology.
- Extensive knowledge of cytology practice, including the biology and epidemiology of gynaecological cancers.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with staff at all levels.
- Reliable, responsible, and organised, with the ability to work unsupervised.
