About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Biomedical Scientist to join our team in Cervical Screening at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing a clinical diagnostic reporting service for cervical cytology samples, ensuring the highest quality of care for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical diagnostic reporting services for cervical cytology samples, interpreting results and providing guidance on subsequent clinical action or intervention.
  • Work closely with Consultant Pathologists and other team members to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the screening programme.
  • Attend multi-disciplinary team meetings to contribute to the development of clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Assist with the training of cytology staff, ST trainee Pathologists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A BSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent, with current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • A NHSCSP Certificate of Competence in Cervical Cytology.
  • Extensive knowledge of cytology practice, with a strong understanding of the principles and practice of the NHS Cervical Screening Programme.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and other stakeholders.
