The Data Standards Officer will report to the Standards Manager and will be expected to support them in the development of standards and guidelines specific to Heritage Science and Conservation Research (HSCR), extending the current online series of Guides to Good Practice to cover all aspects of HSCR, and undertaking quality control of Data Management Plans. They will provide advice to the archives team on recommendations covering file formats and metadata for HSCR resources. They will also participate in data curation, including data accessioning, validation and migration, in line with standards guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development of standards and guidelines for Heritage Science and Conservation Research
- Undertake quality control of Data Management Plans
- Provide advice on file formats and metadata for HSCR resources
- Participate in data curation, including data accessioning, validation and migration
Requirements
You should have experience of working in a heritage science or conservation environment and knowledge of the organisation of, and key stakeholders in, the heritage science and conservation sector. An advanced level of relevant digital or laboratory skills is also essential, as well as experience of working with a wide range of data types and formats. You should be able to reconcile conflicting priorities and to respond positively to complete tasks to deadlines and specified standards in a busy service environment. You must be able to work collaboratively with others, deliver a quality service, and identify and implement continuous improvement. Knowledge of the approaches to information management, including data and metadata standards, interoperability, digital preservation and the FAIR principles is desirable.
