Role Overview:

The Principal Engineer for Fixed Fire Fighting Systems is integral to our operations. This position encompasses the preparation of tender submissions, the design and development of innovative Fixed Fire Fighting systems, and the creation of technical documentation. Additionally, the role includes providing technical assistance to commissioning teams and managing design changes throughout the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transforming client specifications into effective system designs.
  • Performing design calculations such as pressure loss, pipe velocity, sprinkler coverage, and pump sizing.
  • Formulating and overseeing the control philosophy for Fixed Fire Fighting systems.
  • Specifying and selecting appropriate equipment.
  • Coordinating the Fixed Fire Fighting systems with other ship systems, including: Platform Management System, Low Voltage Electrical Distribution System, Sea Water System, Fresh Water System, and HVAC System.
  • Engaging with project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, providing technical support for design reviews, integration, validation, safety assessments, and supplier deliverable evaluations.
  • Ensuring design integrity is maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture (HNC with relevant experience will be considered).
  • Chartered Engineer status or progress towards it.
  • Demonstrated design experience with Marine Fixed Fire Fighting Systems, including Foam, Water Spray, Local Application, Magazine, and Gas systems.
  • Familiarity with Defence Standards and Classification Society regulations.
  • Proven ability to interface with clients effectively.
  • Strong supplier management skills.
  • Leadership capabilities in guiding engineering teams.

Desirable:

  • Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of system shock requirements.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications.
