As part of our commitment to enhancing work-life balance, NHS Scotland is transitioning to a reduced full-time working week of 37 hours, effective from April 2024, with no alteration in remuneration. This adjustment will also apply proportionately to part-time employees. Please note that certain service areas may not immediately implement this change, and you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes weekly temporarily, for which you will be compensated until the new schedules are established.

This dynamic position entails collaborating with General Practitioners (GPs) and multidisciplinary teams in primary care to optimize medication management and deliver superior patient care. You will be responsible for implementing the pharmacotherapy service as part of the GP contract, playing a crucial role in assisting patients with their medication needs. This patient-centered role includes taking on prescribing responsibilities and developing your own clinical caseload in alignment with the Achieving Excellence strategy objectives.

As a member of the East Dunbartonshire Pharmacy team, your primary goal will be to enhance the quality and cost-effectiveness of prescribing and medication use for patients within the East Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP). You will engage closely with GPs, practice staff, community pharmacists, care home personnel, and other healthcare professionals to foster the development and application of high-quality, safe, and evidence-based prescribing practices. Your work will span GP practices, care homes, and various healthcare environments, providing tailored clinical care to patients through clinics, thereby improving the safety and efficacy of their medications, including prescribing when appropriate.

Essential qualifications include registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council and a demonstrated commitment to Continuing Professional Development. Candidates should possess significant post-registration experience and be prepared to travel between GP practices and care homes to fulfill the responsibilities of this role. Experience in direct collaboration with primary care teams and familiarity with GP systems would be advantageous. This position necessitates PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland Check.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Independent prescriber or commitment to achieving this qualification
  • At least 2 years of post-registration experience
