Job Title: Substation Inspector

Job Summary:

UK Power Networks is seeking a skilled Substation Inspector to join our team in Central London. As a Substation Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting inspections and non-intrusive diagnostic testing of all plant and apparatus associated with the Primary Distribution network.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspection and non-intrusive diagnostic testing of all plant and apparatus associated with the Primary Distribution network.
  • Fault location and repair of minor plant defects associated with the Distribution network.
  • Ensure that all staff for which you are responsible work to the DSR and demonstrate a safety culture.
  • Take oil samples for diagnostic testing from HV plant.
  • Use IT equipment.
  • Supervise maintenance/construction staff within their working party.
  • Be prepared to assist other sections as determined by your experience.

Requirements:

  • Basic electrical background.
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to problem-solve in a practical way.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Must have a clean driving license.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation.

  • Work efficiently and communicate effectively with other team members.
  • Have the enthusiasm to learn and develop new skills and techniques.
  • Demonstrate a strong safety culture.
  • Be flexible in their approach to work.

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

Managers and supervisors carry both legal and company responsibilities for ensuring the health and safety of their employees, those under their control, and those who might be affected by the work undertaken.

Employees will ensure they understand the health and safety risks involved in their work activities and their responsibility to apply the controls needed to manage those risks to acceptable levels.

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
