Job Summary

About the Role

We are looking for a Solicitor with a strong background in childcare law and experience in handling complex cases. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering successful outcomes, including:

  • Managing a caseload of Public Law Family matters, PLO, care proceedings, and other related cases;
  • Providing written and verbal legal advice to clients and other stakeholders;
  • Communicating effectively with clients, opponents, courts, and tribunals to progress files;
  • Representing clients in court and advocating on their behalf;
  • Supporting other Family advisors on their cases and contributing to the department's strategy and business objectives;
  • Managing and supervising Paralegals, delegating work, and facilitating their professional development;
  • Ensuring compliance with internal and external business requirements, including ISO:9001 quality control, SRA Principles, and Court deadlines;
  • Monitoring and reporting on financial and business performance to deliver work in a profitable manner;
  • Contributing to internal continuous improvement, innovation, and knowledge sharing;
  • Collaborating with other departments on joint files, projects, and events;
  • Contributing to the development of the department's business plan;
  • Building positive relationships with clients and enhancing the firm's profile to drive business growth;
  • Contributing to business development, including training events, articles, and submissions;

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • To be a qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive with at least 2 years' PQE;
  • To have previous experience working with childcare matters and court proceedings;
  • To have previous experience within a childcare family department;
  • To be an accredited Children Panel Member (desirable);
  • To have proven competence in IT skills, including Outlook, Word, case management, and other systems;
  • To be able to work as part of a team;
  • To have good client care skills and provide professional and competent legal advice;
  • To have proven experience handling own caseload, managing deadlines, and generating fees in accordance with agreed targets;
  • To have good writing and drafting skills, with excellent communication and technical ability;
  • To have excellent attention to detail and organisational skills;
  • To have an interest in long-term development and progression in the department;
  • To have good communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • To have a driving license and access to a vehicle for travel throughout the North West region (or to specify any disability that prevents driving).
