Qualifications Required

Essential Qualifications

  • BSc or equivalent in Paediatric Nursing.
  • Professional knowledge gained through degree and specialist training.
  • Registered with the NMC.
  • Completion of QIS PCCU / High Dependency Course in Paediatrics.
  • Teaching qualification or Mentoring Course.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Leadership qualification.
  • Mentor and Assessor certification.

Training Requirements

Essential Training

  • Completion of mandatory training and updates.
  • Relevant post-basic specialist training.
  • Evidence of moving and handling training.

Desirable Training

  • Attendance at relevant conferences or study days.
  • QISR certification.
  • Leadership training courses.

Experience Required

Essential Experience

  • Significant post-registration experience, particularly in Paediatric HDU / ITU settings.
  • Experience at Band 5 level.
  • Supervision of non-registered staff and students.
  • Evidence of mentoring abilities.
  • Awareness of effective management of clinical areas.
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.

Desirable Experience

  • Research training or experience.
  • Recent experience in paediatric ITU/HDU.
  • Involvement in link nurse or project work.
  • Evidence of formal teaching experience.
  • Experience in team leadership.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and effective time management.
  • Successful management of nursing change processes.
  • Understanding of advocacy roles.
