Westlakes Recruit is currently seeking experienced Lead Mechanical Engineers with expertise in the nuclear industry for long-term contract opportunities. This position is classified as inside IR35, offering a competitive hourly rate based on experience.

The role of the Lead Engineer involves providing strategic direction in the execution of engineering and technical tasks, leveraging extensive process knowledge and industry experience.

As a seasoned professional, you will possess a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles, adeptly addressing a variety of technical challenges. Responsibilities include:

  • Compiling detailed technical reports and delivering presentations.
  • Reviewing and ensuring compliance with specifications aligned with stakeholder expectations.
  • Effectively managing multidisciplinary teams to guarantee timely and efficient project delivery.
  • Fostering collaboration across engineering and other functional departments.
  • Overseeing the technical management of engineering outputs to ensure alignment with established technical scopes.
  • Identifying and applying relevant procedures, codes, and standards to engineering activities.
  • Upholding the highest standards of health and safety within your area of responsibility, ensuring all team members adhere to company policies regarding health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Planning and executing project and technical audits to facilitate learning and adherence to agreed standards.
  • Maintaining awareness of industry best practices and promoting a culture of excellence in engineering.
  • Supporting business development initiatives.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Leading Others: Take ownership of the performance and development of team members through effective communication and feedback.
  • Leading Resources: Ensure efficient planning and organization of resources to fulfill customer commitments.

Qualifications include an engineering degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, substantial demonstrable experience, and a membership in a relevant professional institute. Candidates should have a proven track record in managing engineering scopes for projects from initial design through to full Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) phases, with a breadth of experience across various commercial or defense projects.
