Senior Psychiatric Consultant - General Adult Community Services

Work Schedule: Full Time, 10 sessions weekly

Employment Type: Permanent

Are you interested in contributing to an innovative approach to community mental health care within an Integrated Care System?

This is an exceptional opportunity to become a vital member of one of the two Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) within the Community Hub. The CMHT is dedicated to supporting adults aged 25 and older and collaborates closely with other teams in the Community Hub, including the Older Adult CMHT and the Assertive Outreach Team. Additionally, there is a specialized Home Treatment Team that is closely associated with the CMHT.

As we advance with our Community Mental Health Transformation in alignment with the Long-Term Plan, we anticipate a reduction in referrals and caseloads. The focus will shift from static caseloads to collaborative efforts within local neighborhoods, in partnership with Primary Care Networks.

Indicative Job Plan: 7.5 PAs for Direct Clinical Care and 2.5 PAs for Support Professional Activities.

Key Responsibilities for the Senior Psychiatric Consultant role include:

  • Conducting comprehensive assessments for individuals experiencing mental health challenges referred by General Practitioners from the designated area or transferred from other Trust services, such as Home Treatment and psychiatric liaison services in emergency departments, and developing care plans based on best evidence-based practices.
  • Creating risk assessment and management strategies in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, service users, caregivers, and other relevant agencies, ensuring maximum empowerment of service users and caregivers in making informed treatment choices.
  • Acting as the Responsible Clinician and being open to training for obtaining section 12(2) MHA approval, renewing this status as per established procedures, and conducting assessments, including Mental Health Act evaluations when necessary.
  • Overseeing the development and execution of care planning through the multidisciplinary team.
  • Delivering evidence-based bio-psychosocial interventions to foster recovery and social inclusion, including collaborative efforts with external organizations to ensure community engagement.
  • Participating in the education and training of junior medical professionals and medical students.

Essential Qualifications for the Senior Psychiatric Consultant role:

  • MBBS or an equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
  • MRCPsych or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician status.
  • Significant experience in psychiatry, particularly with individuals suffering from severe mental health conditions, ideally in a community context.
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligibility for inclusion within six months of obtaining a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in General Adult Psychiatry.
