Join a Leading Consultancy

We are collaborating with a prominent engineering and architecture consultancy to recruit a Principal Flood Risk Modeller for their Energy, Water, and Environment division in London. This position is integral to the Flooding and Water Management Team.

Flexible Working Arrangements

This role offers flexibility, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office, along with the possibility of adjusted working hours.

Contribute to Sustainable Water Management

As a member of the Water Environment Department, you will advocate for the sustainable management of water resources. Your efforts will help safeguard the water environment and enhance resilience against flood risks and climate change impacts. The consultancy is committed to fostering your technical skills, enabling you to become a key contributor in developing innovative solutions.

Diverse Project Involvement

Your responsibilities will encompass a range of flood risk assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), and flood risk management initiatives across the UK, serving both public and private sector projects.

Technical Leadership

In your role as a Principal Flood Risk Modeller, you will provide technical oversight to the modelling team, ensuring the quality of flood risk modelling outputs. Your extensive experience in flood risk assessment and management will influence modelling approaches and decision-making regarding proposed flood risk mitigation strategies.

Project Management and Mentorship

Depending on your project management expertise, you may lead projects or collaborate closely with project managers to coordinate resources, manage client relationships, and oversee quality, timelines, and budgets. Additionally, you will mentor team members, offering technical guidance and supervising their deliverables.

Qualifications for Success

  1. Extensive experience in hydraulic modelling across various projects.
  2. Strong technical knowledge of UK hydrology and open channel hydraulics.
  3. Proficiency in standard hydraulic modelling software such as Innovyze ICM, Flood Modeller Pro, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, or SRH2D.
  4. Ability to lead and manage projects effectively, adhering to deliverables, milestones, and quality assurance protocols.
  5. Understanding of economic appraisals (MCM, B ST, etc.).
  6. Experience in optioneering and schematic design.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills for successful public and statutory consultations.
  8. Familiarity with Flood Risk Assessment, Natural Flood Management, and Sustainable Drainage techniques is advantageous.
  9. Chartered status from a recognized institution (C.Eng or C.WEM) is preferred.
  10. A Master's or Doctorate degree in hydrology, hydraulic modelling, water resources, or a related environmental science field.
