We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Indirect Tax Lead to join our Tax team at Wise. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in managing our overall tax strategy, reducing risks, costs, and ensuring compliance with tax laws in every territory we operate in.
Key Responsibilities- Provide Timely and Accurate VAT Advice: Offer practical and proactive VAT guidance to internal teams as required, ensuring timely and accurate advice to support business decisions.
- Develop Strong Stakeholder Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including tax team members, financial controllers, accountants, product, and expansion teams, to identify their needs and priorities.
- Manage Indirect Tax Risks: Collaborate with external advisors to manage indirect tax exposures, stay up-to-date on ongoing compliance obligations, and understand the impact of expansion on our global footprint and service offerings.
- Support Tax Implementation Projects: Work with the tax implementation team to support various projects, including indirect tax return automation, e-invoicing, transfer pricing, invoice coding reviews, end-to-end process mapping, and documentation.
- Review Global Indirect Tax Returns: Ensure fully documented review processes and timely filings, with the ability to dig into details as required.
- Be an Engaged Team Member: Contribute to making indirect tax more accessible and understood across the tax and wider business teams, including providing training to finance, accounting, and AP teams.
- Determine Tax Provisions and Communicate: Determine tax provisions and communicate these to stakeholders, as well as determining and enacting action plans and process improvements.
- Manage Tax Risks and Provisions: Help the Head of Tax in managing and reporting tax risks, tax provisions, and risk incidences to be escalated.
- Lead the Indirect Tax Function: Manage, lead, and grow the indirect tax function, ensuring it is aligned with the company's goals and objectives.
We are looking for a candidate with at least 6 years of indirect tax experience, preferably with big 4 or in-house experience, and some experience in financial services. You should have a good understanding of spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets) and be able to understand large volumes of complex data. Solid knowledge of EU VAT and cross-border indirect tax principles is essential.
You should be a self-starter, able to work with and influence stakeholders on indirect tax matters at all levels, and have the ability to work independently with minimal guidance. You should be prepared to take ownership of complex new areas and solve problems with no or very limited guidance.
