POSITION SUMMARY:

Join our team at Orthopedic Centers of Colorado as a Certified Professional Coder, where you will collaborate with fellow Certified Medical Coders (CPC) in our Central Billing Office (CBO). Your role will encompass all facets of coding for patient office visits and surgical interventions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accurately code orthopedic office visits and surgical procedures utilizing CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Assign appropriate modifiers to procedures to ensure precise billing.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians and office staff to verify the completeness of office notes and operative reports, ensuring accurate coding.
  • Act as a resource and subject matter expert, providing coding consultation to healthcare providers.
  • Identify discrepancies and potential quality of care issues, as well as billing concerns.
  • Ensure timely entry of coding charges for office visits and surgeries, including copays and service payments.
  • Work in conjunction with the coding and billing team, as well as other departments within the CBO.
  • Participate in special projects as needed.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Competitive hourly wage ranging from $20.00 to $25.00.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting office notes and operative reports for coding.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong emphasis on coding accuracy.
  • Skilled in data entry within practice management systems.
  • Knowledgeable in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with CCI edits to ensure coding precision.
  • Capable of working independently while possessing effective communication skills.
  • Experience with Allscripts is a plus.
  • Current CEUs and coding certification documentation required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of one year of experience in orthopedic coding.
  • Valid driver's license for potential travel to other offices.
  • CPC certification is mandatory.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least one year of college education.
  • Two years of experience in medical coding within an office setting.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Standard business office environment.
  • Occasional local travel may be required.
  • Frequent use of computer monitors, including mousing and typing.
  • Regular standing, walking, and sitting throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds on occasion.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
