Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Nurse Education Specialist to become a vital member of our Education Team within the Emergency Department and Acute Medical Unit. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of two years of experience in clinical teaching within settings such as Acute Medicine, Intensive Care Units, or Emergency Departments. Experience in simulation training focused on patient safety, clinical skills development, and Human Factors is essential, along with a keen interest in supporting sepsis guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will play a crucial role in the clinical training and professional development of nursing and healthcare personnel across both departments. Responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting in situ simulation exercises and sepsis training.
  • Facilitating planned educational study days.
  • Supporting newly qualified nursing staff during their induction and preceptorship periods.
  • Engaging in report writing and data collection for submission to the Matron Lead, contributing to CQC and LQA action plans.
  • Maintaining the training database for the care group.
  • Working as a sepsis nurse one day per week to align with the latest NICE sepsis guidelines and provide departmental training to ensure timely patient care.

It is expected that the candidate will either hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or be willing to pursue this qualification within the first year of employment as part of the Training Needs Assessment program.

Main Duties

The Nurse Education Specialist will be instrumental in executing the educational strategy for the emergency care environment. Duties will include:

  • Providing supervision and training in practice.
  • Identifying training needs to ensure an appropriate skill mix within the workforce.
  • Collaborating with lead nurse managers and educational institutions to support learners in the Emergency Department.
  • Managing a small team of nurse educators to ensure the delivery of high-quality education across the division.
  • Fostering relationships with both the Acute Medical Unit and Emergency Department to uphold educational and clinical standards.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in leadership, change management, and education, with a proven track record in teaching and developing others. Essential qualifications include:

  • Current registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Completion of a risk assessment course or equivalent.
  • Post-registration training or education qualification.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Desirable Attributes

While not mandatory, candidates with a degree or equivalent educational background will be preferred. Experience in core training for CPR, Manual Handling, and Conflict Resolution is also advantageous.
