Base Materials Ltd is a prominent player in the chemical engineering sector, operating across two facilities. Our primary focus is on the production of innovative styling, modelling, and tooling materials that cater to the creation of high-quality precision moulds, master models, jigs, and fixtures. Our products serve a wide array of industries, including automotive, aerospace, motorsport, marine, and various industrial applications.

In line with our ambitious Growth Plan, we are looking to enhance our internal capabilities with a newly defined Project Manager position. In this role, you will oversee the comprehensive management of extensive, multi-stage projects. Your responsibilities will begin with collaborating with the commercial team to generate quotes, pricing, and lead times for our clients. Once an order is confirmed, you will work closely with the engineering team to develop the Bill of Materials (BOM) and related operational documentation, subsequently managing the workflow through the production process until the order is fulfilled. You will be tasked with coordinating internal resources and external partners to ensure the seamless execution of multiple, intricate projects. Your goal will be to deliver projects on schedule, within scope, and on budget while keeping customers informed of progress against the project timeline.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define project scopes and objectives, engaging all relevant stakeholders while ensuring technical and engineering feasibility.
  • Create a detailed project plan to monitor progress.
  • Schedule and oversee job completion, ensuring quality standards are met from the outset.
  • Develop basic revenue models and profit/loss statements; achieve financial targets by forecasting needs, preparing budgets, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Manage daily operational aspects of the projects.
  • Ensure resource availability and allocation, adapting to changing requirements and responsibilities.
  • Employ appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule, and costs.
  • Maintain communication with customers to keep them updated.
  • Evaluate project performance using relevant systems, tools, and techniques.
  • Foster relationships with stakeholders.
  • Conduct risk management to mitigate project risks.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with third-party suppliers while collaborating closely with internal quality and procurement teams.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
  • Regularly report project status to stakeholders, including updates to the Directors.
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles (Six Sigma, 5S) to achieve a 'right first time' approach, ensuring zero defects at dispatch and minimizing customer complaints.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with management regarding significant issues that may impact operational objectives.

Management and Team Development:

  • Lead by example to mentor, train, and develop team members, fostering a high-performance, effective, and collaborative operational team.
  • Assist with recruitment, management, and performance evaluation processes.
  • Ensure that operational objectives and performance standards are understood and embraced by all team members.
  • Support the growth and development of team members as appropriate.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Project management training/qualification (PRINCE II preferred but not essential).
  • Engineering qualification, preferably a Diploma/Degree (or equivalent) in an engineering, polymer science, or technology-related field.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical plans and drawings.
  • Strong experience in data analysis and reporting to support project management and decision-making.
  • Experience in SME manufacturing and multi-site operations, ideally from an engineering planning background.
  • Extensive knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques, particularly Lean Six Sigma.
  • Quality-focused with a 'right first-time' mentality and keen attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic with accountability, serving as an exemplary coach and role model for the team.
  • Ability to streamline operations to ensure a quality product.

Preferred but not essential:

  • Experience with ISO9001 and ISO45001 standards.
  • Understanding of the buoyancy industry.
