This position will be part of a dynamic and collaborative team focused on securing funds from diverse sources, including trusts, foundations, corporate partnerships, major donors, events, community fundraisers, and individual contributions.

As one of the largest NHS charities in the UK, The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust partners with Newcastle Hospitals to raise funds that support a variety of initiatives beyond public funding. We take pride in making a significant difference in people's lives every day.

Key Responsibilities

The Major Gifts and Legacy Fundraising Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and advancing our Major Giving strategy, aimed at supporting and expanding our valuable network of high-net-worth donors. Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Fundraising, the successful candidate will oversee all operations related to major gift and legacy fundraising.

  • Establish and cultivate productive relationships with high-net-worth individuals to foster deeper connections, adapt to sector changes, and demonstrate our growth and impact.
  • Design and execute a comprehensive Major Gifts and Legacy fundraising strategy, including a robust prospect pipeline to meet income targets.
  • Create compelling fundraising and partnership opportunities aligned with the strategic objectives of the Trust, focusing on securing significant funding agreements.
  • Enhance donor engagement through an exceptional stewardship program that meaningfully connects with supporters and expands our donor base.
  • Raise the profile of the Trust by attending and leading key networking events, while staying informed about sector insights and trends.

About the Organization

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recognized as one of the busiest and most successful teaching NHS foundation trusts in the country, employing approximately 16,000 staff and generating an annual income of £1 billion. We have a longstanding commitment to delivering high-quality care, clinical excellence, and innovative medical research on a regional, national, and international scale.

We also take pride in being the second-largest provider of specialized services in the UK, supporting individuals with a range of rare and complex medical conditions. Our staff manage around 2 million patient interactions each year, consistently delivering high standards of healthcare.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess a degree-level education or equivalent experience, along with:

  • Extensive knowledge of charity regulations and professional fundraising standards.
  • Experience in senior-level strategic thinking and relationship management.
  • Familiarity with information and data protocols, as well as knowledge of gift aid and tax-effective giving.

Skills and Abilities

Essential skills include:

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a proven track record in influencing and persuasion.
