About the Role

Sussex Police is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Crime Investigator to join our Safeguarding Investigation Unit. As a Crime Investigator, you will play a critical role in identifying and protecting vulnerable individuals, preventing and responding to harm, and keeping people safe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate serious and complex crimes, including domestic abuse, child sexual abuse, stalking, and serious sexual assaults.
  • Correspond with solicitors, the Crown Prosecution Service, and partner agencies to gather and assess evidence.
  • Prepare evidential files for court and liaise with the Crown Prosecution Service.
  • Perform the role of Officer in Charge (OIC) in court hearings and trials.
  • Develop and foster new relationships with partner agencies and external service providers.

Requirements

  • Qualified investigator (PIP1) or suitable skills and experience that would allow for grandparent rights.
  • Pass in the National Investigators Exam.
  • Commitment to obtain the qualification of PIP 2 within 18 months of appointment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the confidence and ability to negotiate and influence others through verbal and written communication.
  • Capable of absolute discretion in handling matters of a personal, sensitive, and confidential nature.
  • Ability to interpret information quickly and effectively to select the right course of action.
  • Excellent organisational, planning, and prioritising abilities.
  • Demonstrate confidence, credibility, and resilience.
  • Ability to independently exercise own judgement in a consistent manner, within confines of legislation and agreed procedures.
  • Ability to operate multiple computer database systems and be willing to undertake training to become proficient in all relevant Sussex Police systems.
  • Ability to analyse problems, make sound operational decisions, and have a high level of persistence and self-motivation to see an investigation through to conclusion.
  • Ability to work under pressure, have a methodical approach to work, and meet competing deadlines.
