Job Overview:

The Environmental Manager plays a crucial role in the formulation, execution, and oversight of sustainability initiatives aimed at enhancing waste management, ensuring compliance, and promoting recycling efforts across the Westfield London White City and Stratford locations. This position necessitates collaboration with tenants to foster effective waste management practices, elevate recycling rates, and generate monthly reports on environmental performance metrics. Additionally, the role is integral to achieving Grosvenor's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability objectives, including meeting recycling benchmarks, implementing the Green Academy, and improving communication with retailers regarding sustainability efforts.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Waste Management and Segregation:
  • Formulate and execute robust waste segregation strategies aimed at achieving a 75% recycling rate.
  • Oversee and manage waste collection, sorting, and disposal operations.
  • Ensure waste receptacles are appropriately labelled and positioned for maximum efficiency.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Remain informed about local environmental regulations and legislation.
  • Guarantee that all waste management practices adhere to current legal standards.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits to identify areas for enhancement.
  • Recycling Programs:
  • Design initiatives to enhance recycling rates within the shopping centre.
  • Collaborate with waste management service providers to refine recycling processes.
  • Implement educational campaigns to increase awareness of recycling among tenants and visitors.
  • Focus on meeting or surpassing the recycling targets established by Grosvenor Services.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability:

  • Execute Grosvenor's CSR initiatives at the Westfield London site, concentrating on sustainability and environmental impact.
  • Lead the establishment and management of the Green Academy to educate and engage employees and retailers on sustainable practices.
  • Enhance communication with retailers regarding Grosvenor's sustainability initiatives, ensuring their active involvement.

Tenant Collaboration:

  • Engage closely with tenants to educate and promote adherence to waste reduction and recycling protocols.
  • Provide training and resources to tenants on sustainable waste management practices.
  • Organize workshops and meetings to discuss and advocate for environmental initiatives.

Data Management and Reporting:

  • Maintain precise records of waste and recycling statistics.
  • Analyze and compile monthly reports detailing waste segregation performance, compliance status, and recycling rates.
  • Present findings to the Venue Manager and Operations Director, offering actionable recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience in environmental management, preferably within a retail or commercial context.
  • Strong understanding of waste management principles, environmental regulations, and sustainability practices.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, emphasizing stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficient in data analysis and report generation.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proactive and solution-oriented approach.

Working Conditions:

This role is situated in a bustling shopping centre environment. The Environmental Manager may need to work occasional evenings or weekends to align with tenant schedules and during special events.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to walk extensively throughout the shopping centre and occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
