Job Overview

This role is suitable for an audiologist with experience working in an NHS setting as a band 5 audiologist for 2 years. The post holder will work across sites at York, Scarborough, Bridlington, and Harrogate, requiring the ability to travel between sites. The role entails working as part of a multidisciplinary team providing highly specialized audiological services, including advanced and complex assessment and rehabilitation of hearing-impaired children.

Main Duties
  1. To assess, treat, and provide specialist audiological assessment, treatment, and care for a range of paediatric patients, determining patient and family-centered clinical need.
  2. To work as an autonomous practitioner in providing audiological cover for ENT clinics for paediatrics, consisting of pure tone audiometry, visual reinforcement audiometry, and tympanometry as required.
  3. To provide a comprehensive hearing aid service to patients referred to the Department from GPs and the ENT Department, including provision of a full range of NHS digital hearing aids.
  4. To provide paediatric assessments, paediatric hearing aid review assessments, hearing aid issues, and verification.
  5. To support Senior Specialist Paediatric Audiology staff with follow-ups to the newborn hearing screen, including oto-acoustic emissions and evoked response audiometry.
  6. To use age-appropriate questionnaires in evaluating the use of hearing aids.
  7. To make referrals to the local cochlear implant centre.
  8. To take responsibility for delivering evidence-based or best practice audiology care, collaborating with colleagues in caseload management, balancing clinical and organizational priorities.
  9. To provide support, leadership, specialist advice, and tailored training, supervision, and mentorship to less experienced members of staff, students, and apprentices.
  10. To deputize for more senior colleagues, which may include taking responsibility for elements of day-to-day operational management.

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications, and Training

Essential Criteria

  1. BSc in Audiology (or equivalent).
  2. Evidence of relevant postgraduate CPD activities.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Evidence of working with Paediatric Audiology patients.
  2. Evidence of knowledge of Otoacoustic emissions and evoked potentials.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential Criteria

  1. Experience in a relevant junior role, including the management of a range of conditions, with evidence of additional knowledge acquired through formal and informal training and supervision.
  2. Evidence of ability to manage complex clinical presentations.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Experience in the use of outcome measures to evaluate clinical treatment.
  2. Experience of training/supporting others (including students) within specialist clinical area.
  3. Delivery of relevant audit/research projects.

Skills and Attributes
