About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Chef to join our team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our culinary team, you will be responsible for leading the preparation and cooking of meals to the highest standard for both our restaurants and patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize the preparation and cooking of meals to meet the required standards, including special diets and function work.
  • Ensure the highest standards of hygiene and food safety are maintained at all times.
  • Liaise with the Head Chef, Deputy Kitchen Manager, and Kitchen Manager to ensure the food is presented to a high standard and portion controls are met.
  • Plan and coordinate the work of the kitchen, adjusting schedules as necessary to meet the demands of the service.
  • Assist with the placement of provisions and other orders according to standing financial instructions.
  • Assist with staff rotas and ensure that all staff are aware of their duties and responsibilities.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate records of food safety, hygiene, and other relevant matters.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new menus and menu ideas.
  • Assist with the training and development of kitchen staff, including new recruits and existing staff.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new procedures and policies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the kitchen.
Requirements
  • Significant experience in a similar environment, preferably in a large kitchen.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail.
  • Good understanding of dietary requirements and the ability to prepare and cook meals to meet these needs.
  • Relevant chef qualification (NVQ 3) or equivalent, and a good level of education.
  • Good command of spoken and written English, with the ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, and other stakeholders.
