Electrical Design Engineer - Job Overview:

Melbreck Technical Recruitment is working with a leading designer and manufacturer of special purpose machinery to hire an Electrical Design Engineer to join their technical team.

This is an office-based role that requires a hands-on Electrical Design Engineer to work closely with the Mechanical Design, Project, and Software teams to provide control panel layouts, schematic drawings with component and cable specification, and support to the installation teams and clients.

Electrical Design Engineer - Key Responsibilities:
  1. Generate electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagrams using Eplan Pro Panel.
  2. Specify and source components, consumables, and other hardware in conjunction with the purchasing and software department to meet requirements and project cost targets.
  3. Select PLC/HMI in conjunction with the Software department.
  4. Support the Spares/Service department with sourcing of parts for customers and technical queries.
  5. Work to a customer-provided specification (URS) when required.
  6. Comply with relevant legislation and standards, such as BS7671, IEC 60204, ISO 13849, UL508A, NFPA79, AS3000, etc.
  7. Ensure product safety and compliance to relevant codes and standards are implemented and maintained.
  8. Advise on technical matters arising from sales enquiries.
  9. Provide technical support and advice on matters concerning product quality, test, inspection, and application, including the review and provision of relevant documentation where required.
  10. Ensure the integrity of the design through technical design calculations and provide reports when required.
  11. Collaborate with the Mechanical Design department to package the control system within the machine envelope.
  12. Research obsolete component replacement for existing machines in the field.
  13. Specify correct parameters for components where required.
  14. Work with low-voltage single and three-phase AC systems, ranging from 110V - 600V.
  15. Work with extra-low-voltage DC systems, typically 24V.
Electrical Design Engineer - Requirements:
  1. Proven practical electrical wiring experience; mechanical experience would also be beneficial.
  2. Previous electrical CAD experience specifically with E-plan Pro Panel.
  3. Experience with Microsoft Office Applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  4. Qualified to HNC/HND standard or above, preferably in an electrical engineering-related subject.
  5. Able to manage a dynamic workload and have a flexible approach to the role while maintaining excellent problem-solving abilities and an eye for details.
  6. Experienced in reading and interpreting technical drawings and interpreting data in written/numerical form on electrical systems.
  7. Works well as an individual and effectively within a group.
  8. Seeks out opportunities for improvement while delivering solutions to diverse tasks/projects within demanding time, target cost, and quality requirements.
Electrical Design Engineer - Benefits:
  1. 8:30 am - 5:00 pm working hours.
  2. Pension scheme.
  3. 22 days Annual Leave, plus 8 days bank holidays.
  4. Holiday allowance increases with time served.
