Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Finance Director, the Project Controller serves as a vital link between finance and operations, acting as a financial business partner to the project management team. The Project Controller collaborates closely with Project Managers and Business Sector Managers to generate, analyze, and present precise financial data, including for smaller subsidiary companies connected to the projects. This data supports operational decision-making and fulfills financial reporting obligations, including monthly, quarterly, and annual requirements.

Additionally, the Project Controller aids other managers in ensuring compliance with all relevant tax, payroll, and employment regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the financial and administrative framework of projects, collaborating with the estimating team to establish project budgets. Work with the Project Manager to track project progress and prepare monthly financial Budget Control Reports (BCRs), articulating the narrative behind the numbers and clarifying the financial implications of decisions. Support the Quantity Surveyor in ensuring timely and accurate sales applications and invoices, while monitoring overdue invoices as necessary. Review and categorize purchase invoices for approval. Maintain accurate financial records through effective monitoring, review, and approval of postings, journal entries, and ledger accounts. Identify and report on opportunities, risks, and contractual obligations, particularly financial ones. Analyze and report on project financials, including budget variances, cash flow forecasts, and balance sheet positions (accruals, WIP, etc.). Assist managers in ensuring project compliance with internal policies and external regulations, such as payroll and tax (CIS / VAT). Serve as the primary contact for project financial inquiries. Actively engage with other departments throughout the project lifecycle to share insights and best practices. Coordinate with auditors to provide necessary information. Update monthly and quarterly management accounting schedules, review with relevant budget holders, and input into the financial reporting system.

Qualifications:

Relevant financial qualification, such as AAT or CIMA finalist Strong written and verbal communication abilities Proficient in Microsoft Excel Exceptional attention to detail Knowledge of taxation, including VAT, CT, and PAYE Familiarity with CIS is preferred. Right to work in the UK.

Desirable Skills:

Experience in budget management Background in a relevant industry Familiarity with ERP accounting systems
