Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough inspections, servicing, modifications, and repairs of emergency service vehicles and associated equipment, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications.
2. Maintain accurate documentation, both electronically and in writing, to guarantee the operational readiness of all vehicles at all times.
3. Collaborate effectively as a vital member of the Fleet & Engineering team to ensure a fully operational fleet that supports the organization's mission.
4. Assist other trades within the Fleet & Engineering services when their expertise is more applicable to specific repairs, including operational equipment.
5. Perform PSV/MOT inspections on emergency vehicles, adhering to established best practices for fire services.
6. Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems using advanced computer technology, addressing faults down to the board level.
7. Execute welding repairs using MIG, TIG, electric, and gas welding techniques across a diverse range of vehicles and equipment.
8. Be prepared to work in various conditions, including physically demanding environments, and travel as necessary to fulfill job duties.
Documentation and Reporting:
1. Ensure the completion and maintenance of service records and documentation related to inspections, servicing, modifications, and repairs.
2. Provide relevant information to certify that all inspected vehicles and equipment are safe and compliant for use.
3. Offer cost assessments to the Workshop Team Leader for any vehicle or equipment deemed uneconomical to repair.
Performance and Training:
1. Contribute to the overall performance of the Fleet & Engineering function, demonstrating flexibility to meet key performance indicators.
2. Assist in asset tagging of vehicles and equipment in accordance with organizational procedures.
3. Participate in on-call arrangements as directed by the Fleet & Engineering Manager.
4. Mentor apprentices, providing on-the-job training and oversight of their work.
5. Attend training and refresher courses to maintain competence in various functional areas, including electronics, electrical systems, welding, hydraulics, bodywork, and inspections.
Qualifications:
1. Possess a certified level 2 trade qualification in Vehicle Mechanic studies.
2. Have a minimum of two years' experience in a relevant trade role.
3. Demonstrate excellent record-keeping skills for computerized repair and inspection data.
4. Be proficient in using Windows and other Microsoft applications, as well as a Management Information System (MIS) for record-keeping.
5. Hold a current B Class driving license.
Compensation:
Competitive hourly rate.
