Job Title: Interim Senior Accountant

We are seeking an experienced Interim Senior Accountant to join our team at Venn Group. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for providing financial support and advice to senior management across various council services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and control the day-to-day finance functions within allocated service areas, developing and recommending solutions to problems or issues affecting services.
  • Oversee and manage the accounts of distinct service areas, including budget setting, in-year monitoring, and closure of accounts, ensuring significant issues are raised with senior management.
  • Provide professional and flexible financial support and accountancy advice to senior management, liaising with external parties to complete grant claims and other funding claims.
  • Contribute to the provision of a comprehensive integrated finance service supporting all council departments, senior managers, members, committees, and forums.
  • Undertake technical and professional functions in accordance with CIPFA guidelines, Council standing orders, and financial regulations.
Requirements:
  • Qualified Accounting Technician or relevant experience.
  • Experience of working in local government finance or a similar complex public or private sector organisation, with an understanding of local government issues and their impact on finance.
  • Advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel/Power BI and ability to use more advanced functionality to manipulate large volumes of data and present them in a straightforward manner.
