Job Summary

The Design Engineer will play a key role in designing and delivering regional active travel infrastructure projects, working as part of a national multi-disciplinary team. This role requires a strong understanding of design standards, legislation, and guidance, as well as excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop concept, detailed designs, and construction specifications for active travel infrastructure projects, adhering to relevant design standards, legislation, and guidance.
  • Collaborate with communities and support groups to design projects that respond to local issues and opportunities.
  • Apply inclusive design principles, seeking out and listening to seldom-heard voices to create a fairer public realm in Wales.
  • Support the business case process through the WelTAG stages, providing technical options and contributing to cost, risk, and opportunity development.

Requirements

  • HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or associated discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working in a technical design team on linear infrastructure projects, preferably on highways, active travel, or public realm projects.
  • Knowledge of Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations.
  • Commitment to active travel and sustainable transport.

Welsh Language Skills

While not essential, the ability to speak/write Welsh is a valuable asset for this role. Transport for Wales supports and promotes the use of the Welsh Language, offering opportunities for employees to develop and improve their skills.
