Job Description

Job Title: Intelligence Research Officer

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Intelligence Research Officer to join our team at The Gambling Commission. As an Intelligence Research Officer, you will be responsible for conducting proactive intelligence research and producing a range of intelligence products that identify threats and risks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct reactive intelligence checks through open source and covert research using multiple data sets and sources of information.
  • Interpret information and intelligence, create intelligence logs whilst maintaining databases and intelligence records.
  • Conduct horizon scanning for emerging threats, contributing to strategic, thematic and tactical products by presenting information in line with the policies and procedures of the Commission.
  • Maintain an overview of the whole teams work and support them with requests for intelligence products and research against different threats.
  • Participate in project work as directed and be prepared to respond to taking on tasks from other parts of the business to support Regulatory delivery.
  • Build effective and collaborative relationships and communicate with external customers and internal colleagues to ensure that targets and deadlines are met.
  • Handle and process sensitive sources of intelligence, ensuring their confidentiality, correct recording and dissemination are always safeguarded.

Person Specification:

  • Ability to analyse information and identify risks, escalating as appropriate with minimal supervision.
  • Good understanding of the National Intelligence Model principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with individuals at all levels of the Commission.
  • Demonstrate effective planning and organisation skills with the ability to recognise and manage priorities.
  • Competence in the use of Microsoft Office suite, the internet and using online research and other open source.
