Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Locum Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to join our team at Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional to contribute to the development of our services and provide high-quality care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide psychiatric expertise and assessments to patients, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop effective treatment plans.
  • Contribute to the development of services, including the North Somerset CAMHS Community Eating Disorder Service, and work closely with pediatricians and hospitals in Bristol.
  • Deliver psychiatric input to a skilled community Eating Disorder team, ensuring seamless care coordination and communication.
Requirements
  • Full GMC Registration or eligibility for inclusion on the register with a current licence to practise upon appointment.
  • Eligibility for the Specialist Register or attainment of CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry within 6 months.
  • Section 12 approval/ Approved Clinician Status OR capability to achieve it within 3 months of joining.
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Relevant Higher Degree MD, PHD, Msc or other clinical qualifications.
  • MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Additional clinical qualifications.
  • Specialized training in additional therapies (Positive Behavioural Support, CBT, systemic therapy, DBT, etc.).
Personal Skills and Qualities
  • Possess leadership qualities and the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Effective time management, workload prioritization, and clinical task organization.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills for interactions with patients, caregivers, and fellow staff members.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Understanding of the managerial skills necessary for successful consultancy.
  • Proficiency in psychiatric assessment, formulation, and risk management (including safeguarding), as well as psychopharmacology for children, neurodevelopmental disorders, and attachment difficulties.
Teaching and Research
  • Dedication to and experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and learning.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of teaching principles.
  • Involvement or experience in a research project with publications.
Management and Leadership
  • Evidence of training in management/leadership skills.
