Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. The post-holder will be expected to work in accordance with the NHS GP Contracts and adapt to changing services as required.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, and visiting patients at home.
  • Check and sign repeat prescriptions, and deal with queries, paperwork, and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems.
  • Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Develop management plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols.
  • Provide patients with support, advice, and health education.
  • Admit patients to hospital and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Collect data for audit purposes when agreed.
  • Compile and issue electronic acute and repeat prescriptions.
  • Prescribe in accordance with the Sussex ICB formulary (or generically) whenever clinically appropriate.
Other Responsibilities
  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.
  • Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation when agreed.
  • Contributing to the summarising of patient records and read-coding patient data as appropriate.
  • Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
