Opportunity Overview: A permanent position has become available for a qualified financial professional with expertise in the NHS sector, to join a reputable NHS trust as a Financial Reporting Specialist.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Financial Accounting division, including the refinement of processes for generating the Trust's monthly and quarterly financial reports and Annual Financial Statements.
  • Assist the Financial Accounting team in addressing findings from Internal and External Audit evaluations.
  • Take the lead on all matters related to Charitable Fund accounting.
  • Support the Head of Financial Accounts in managing relationships with outsourced service providers.
  • Ensure that internal financial controls are in place to uphold a robust system of financial governance, adhering to the Trust's established protocols.
  • Contribute to the preparation of monthly financial accounts to meet established deadlines.
  • Manage cash flow and balance agreement procedures for the annual accounts.
  • Review all relevant working papers to ensure a comprehensive audit trail is maintained.
  • Ensure thorough reconciliation of all control accounts on a monthly basis, promptly addressing any identified issues.
  • Collaborate with the Trust's shared service for effective day-to-day management.
  • Engage with external agencies and professional advisors, including HMT and VAT consultants.
  • Oversee the creation of weekly and annual cash flow forecasts.
  • Assist in the completion of the Trust's cash flow plan.
  • Support the identification of cash support needs and the presentation of business cases for cash support requests.
  • Review daily bank statements and cash management schedules.
  • Reconcile cash flow management processes with the Trust's statutory External Financing Limit.
  • Be responsible for all cash and bank accounts of the Trust, including the management of bank signatories and electronic banking access.

Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified accountant with a strong background in technical accounting within the NHS. You should possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to lead, inspire, and develop a small team, while also demonstrating a commitment to your own professional growth.

This role is office-based, requiring presence on-site.
