About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled data analyst to join Shell's Trading & Supply team as a Vessel Performance Analyst. As a key member of the Crude & Products Freight Trading desks, you will play a crucial role in delivering bottom-line value through data analysis and visualization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor real-time consumptions and emissions to identify inefficiencies and optimize fleet performance.
  • Develop and enhance existing vessel optimization tools to provide actionable insights to traders and operators.
  • Create data platforms and dashboards to visualize fleet performance and emissions data, enabling informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the Vessel Performance Manager to provide support and guidance to Freight Trading desks on best practices for running time charter fleets.
  • Work closely with Freight Operations to support real-time interventions and optimize vessel performance.
  • Engage with external service providers on voyage optimization and analytics.
  • Provide commercial and contractual advice on interpretation of clauses and potential exposures for freight trading.
  • Identify areas for commercial value addition and value leakage, and implement ideas to improve fleet efficiency.
  • Assist the Vessel Performance Manager with data analysis and presentation for engagements with external parties.
  • Act as backup for managing vessel performance claims process and recoveries.
  • Support Market Related Hire processes, including monthly option declarations and hire invoice approvals.
Requirements
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization skills with commonly available tools (e.g., MS Excel, Power BI, Qlik).
  • Ability to extract and analyze data from multiple sources using analytical tools.
  • Self-starter with a keen interest in data analytics and the ability to learn new skills as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to cooperate with colleagues in a multinational and interdisciplinary environment.
  • Good communication skills to deliver technical messages to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project and time management skills, as well as organizational skills.
  • Good team player with oral and written fluency in English language.
Desirable Skills
  • Knowledge of technologies commonly used in the shipping sector.
  • Experience in data analysis with programming tools/languages (e.g., Python, SQL, Matlab, Excel VBA).
  • Basic understanding of ships and their day-to-day operations.
  • Highly organized with a keen eye for detail.
