Position Overview

Role Opportunity

We are in search of a Clinical Nurse Specialist to become a vital part of our well-established and supportive multi-disciplinary team, which includes General Practitioners, GP trainees, Practice Paramedics, Clinical Pharmacists, Mental Health Practitioners, Social Prescribers, Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, and Phlebotomists.

The ideal candidate will possess a compassionate demeanor, ensuring the delivery of high-quality nursing care to our patient population. This role is perfect for a Clinical Nurse Specialist who values effective communication and is dedicated to collaborating within a cohesive nursing team.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in managing chronic conditions, as well as expertise in areas such as Minor Illness, travel health, women's health, and general treatment room procedures. Training opportunities will be available for those who require it.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Mandatory

Candidates must be a fully qualified Registered General Nurse (RGN) and possess a valid NMC registration number.

Preferred

Experience as a Practice Nurse

Background in chronic disease management and minor illness clinics

Flexibility to cover for colleagues during periods of absence, demonstrating a willingness to adapt to varying work schedules.

Key Responsibilities

Role Duties

Responsibilities may include (based on experience, with training provided as needed):

  • Conducting reviews and management of long-term conditions, promoting self-management in Diabetes, Asthma, and COPD.
  • Providing wound care, including compression bandaging.
  • Performing Doppler assessments.
  • Conducting travel assessments, offering advice and vaccinations.
  • Administering cervical smears and promoting health awareness.
  • Conducting contraception reviews.
  • Delivering routine immunizations, including childhood vaccinations under Patient Group Directions (PGDs).
  • Assisting patients during examinations by other clinicians.
  • Supporting General Practitioners with minor surgical procedures and coil fittings.
  • Performing urinalysis and ECGs.
  • Carrying out venepuncture and vaccinations, including seasonal flu and COVID-19.
  • Monitoring blood pressure and managing hypertension.
  • Requesting basic pathology tests, such as urine cultures and swabs.
  • Adhering to established clinical protocols, with appropriate referrals to the Nurse Manager or GPs as necessary.

Other Duties

Assist the Infection Control Lead in notifying relevant team members of necessary actions and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, including audits and adherence to Care Quality Commission requirements.

  • Maintaining and sanitizing equipment utilized by nursing and medical staff.
  • Managing inventory and ordering supplies.
  • Following sterilization procedures in accordance with practice policies.
  • In the absence of Healthcare Assistants, ensuring the cleanliness and organization of clinical areas.
  • Sharing responsibility for the overall tidiness of nursing and treatment rooms.
  • Participating in administrative processes within the practice.
  • Maintaining accurate records at all times.
  • Reporting potential issues or errors to the Nurse Manager.
  • Attending and contributing to practice meetings as required.
  • Performing any other delegated tasks relevant to the position.

Qualifications

Essential
