Job Overview
Position: Building Standards Team Leader
Salary: £50,000 - £54,000
We are seeking a skilled and driven professional in building standards to take on the role of Team Leader within our high-performing Building Standards Team.
Your primary responsibility will be to oversee a team comprising Surveyors, Assistant Surveyors, and a Modern Apprentice. You will collaborate closely with the Business Support Team, various sectors of the Economy, Development and Planning Team, and the broader Perth & Kinross Council (PKC) Services.
The Building Standards Team plays a crucial role in PKC's mission to foster a community in Perth & Kinross where everyone can thrive, free from poverty and inequality. This mission is guided by our seven key priorities:
- Collaborating with communities
- Addressing poverty
- Combating climate change and promoting sustainable development
- Building a resilient, stronger, and greener local economy
- Empowering children and young people to reach their full potential
- Protecting and supporting our most vulnerable citizens
- Encouraging and enhancing physical and mental wellbeing
The Building Standards function is vital for the ongoing growth of Perth & Kinross, ensuring an efficient and streamlined development consent process through close cooperation among various service areas. This approach facilitates development while ensuring that construction activities across our diverse urban and rural communities adhere to safety standards and sustainable development goals.
In this role, you will also be instrumental in staff development and in implementing enhancements to service processes and procedures, ensuring the maintenance of high performance and customer satisfaction levels.
As a proactive team member, you will effectively manage your team and broader responsibilities, whether working collaboratively or independently.
Key attributes for success in this position include exceptional communication, IT, and organizational skills, a strong commitment to quality customer service, project execution, and continuous improvement.
If you are a collaborative leader capable of navigating a variety of challenges, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.
Our full-time employees are expected to work on-site for a minimum of two days per week to foster connection and collaboration with colleagues and the community. Arrangements for part-time employees will be tailored to ensure equivalent benefits.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, you should possess a qualification in building standards or a related field, membership in a relevant professional institute, and substantial experience in a building standards context. A solid understanding of the legislation and procedures associated with building standards policy and practice is essential, along with a valid UK driving license, excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to meet tight deadlines, and familiarity with UniformIDOX.
A valid UK driving license is required for this position, as travel to various locations across Perth and Kinross is necessary.
Benefits
We offer a competitive salary and a comprehensive range of employee benefits, including hybrid and flexible working arrangements to promote a healthy work-life balance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, a Low Carbon Car Scheme, up to 36 days of annual leave plus six public holidays, and various lifestyle and wellbeing offerings through our employee benefits platform.
Interviews for shortlisted candidates will be conducted in person.
For any inquiries regarding this vacancy, please reach out to the Service Manager – Development Management and Building Standards.
When applying for this position, please ensure that you provide contact details for two referees, one of whom should be your current or most recent employer.
Please submit your application online. Facilities are available at public libraries in Perth and Kinross for assistance.
As part of our commitment to safer recruitment, any job offer will be contingent upon the successful completion of mandatory checks, including eligibility to work in the UK, Disclosure Scotland or PVG, qualifications, references, and fitness for the role. This may also involve an Overseas Criminal Records Check if applicable.
We prioritize a healthy work-life balance at Perth & Kinross Council and provide supportive management and flexible working arrangements to help you achieve this balance. You will have access to training and support for ongoing professional development.
We encourage applications from individuals of all genders and backgrounds, including former armed forces personnel/reservists, as many skills acquired during military service can be directly applicable to roles within local government.
